Makaha Mountain Farms is a locally owned and operated indoor microgreen farm located on the Leeward side of Oahu. Our indoor growing facility offers us the ability to grow fresh local produce without the use of any chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers.
While our mission at the farm is to always provide fresh, nutritious, and locally grown produce, we firmly believe in teaching our younger generations how to grow food sustainably and responsibly.
Our farm has proudly partnered with the American Renaissance Academy, a college preparatory academy located on the west side of Oahu, to bring sustainable agriculture education and hands-on experience to its students. Our goal is to instill in our next generation the knowledge and ability to grow food indoors. As part of their curriculum, our horticulture students not only learn the process of plant propagation from start to finish but also manage their growth process to the final stages of harvesting, packaging, and distribution.
Equipped with the basic understanding of growing and distributing their own food, our students seek to push the boundaries of technological innovation, clean energy, healthy eating, and efficiency of farm systems to improve how we produce and consume.
As a local farm, we strive to offer sustainable, clean and nutritious eating options to our local community. We are excited to serve commercial and household customers and provide our island with freshly farmed nutrient packed microgreens.
Microgreens are the stage of the plant between the sprout and the full-grown produce. Harvesting them at this stage of their growth gives them up to 40 times more nutrients with a much more intense and defined flavor profile.
Microgreens prevent the accumulation of harmful free radicals in your body (more so than their fully grown versions), as well as aid in the ability to prevent and reverse chronic diseases. These include heart disease, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, and obesity.
Because our microgreens are grown indoors, they are harvestable all year-round without pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides.
